The Brigade d'intervention rapide or BIR for short is a brigade of the Cameroonian Army . It was founded in 2001 and consists of three battalions . The brigade reports directly to the chef d'état-major des armées (chief of staff) and is based in Bafoussam . The brigade consists of three battalions, the battalion des troupes aéroportées (BTAP) from Koutaba , the battalion blindé de reconnaissance (BRR) from Douala and the battalion spécial amphibie (BSA) from Tiko . In November 2014, parts of the brigade crossed the border with Central Africa to fight anti-balaka groups with MINUSCA troops . Amnesty International accuses this BIR of murdering, shooting out of court and causing people to disappear in connection with the fight against Boko Haram . On July 17, 2017, a BIR boat sank near the village of Debunsha , West Coast Municipality , Fako . 34 soldiers are missing while three have been rescued.
