Brigitte Erler

Brigitte Erler b. Tschakert (born May 5, 1943 in Berlin ) is a German politician of the SPD .

Erler began studying history, Latin and political science in Berlin in 1961, which she later continued in Marburg and Freiburg im Breisgau and graduated in 1968. In 1969 she passed the assessor examination for teaching at grammar schools. From 1970 to 1972 she worked as a research assistant in the study group for systems research and in the administration of the German Bundestag in Bonn. She joined the public services, transport and traffic union in 1969 and the SPD in 1970. In 1973 she worked for various members of the Bundestag and in 1974 became a consultant at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation . Here she wrote speeches for Erhard Eppler and Egon Bahr, among others . In 1976 it entered the German Bundestag via the Baden-Württemberg state list . Your re-election in 1980 failed. However, she was able to move into the Bundestag again on December 6, 1982 after the member Rolf Böhme had been elected Lord Mayor of Freiburg im Breisgau and she moved up for him. She was a member of the German Bundestag from 1976 to 1980 and from 1982 to 1983, where she worked on the Agriculture Committee.

Erler ended her work for the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation after she was convinced that development aid is doing more harm than good to people in developing countries . About this she wrote the book "Deadly Aid".

From 1985 to 1989 Brigitte Erler was General Secretary of the German section of Amnesty International . In 1998 she received the Bremen Solidarity Prize .
