Jan Soldat (born February 21, 1984 in Karl-Marx-Stadt , German Democratic Republic ) is a German filmmaker with priority on documentary forms.

Career

Jan Soldat has been producing short films since 2006. In 2008 he began studying film and television directing at the Potsdam Film and Television University .

In 2010 his film Beloved was shown in the short film competition of the Berlinale . The sensational documentary deals with the subject of zoophilia . Also in 2010, Soldat won first prize in the short film competition at the Berlin Porn Film Festival for his short film Endlich Urlaub , in which a man is shown masturbating. With Gelieb , ein / raus and Sandweg '80 three more films by Jan Soldat were shown at the festival. In 2011 one of his films was shown again, Untitled . Jan Soldat was also a member of the festival's competition jury.

In 2012 Jan Soldat was represented again at the Berlinale. In the program Generation 14plus , which is aimed at young, his short film Crazy Dennis Tiger is. The film, shot with amateur actors, tells the story of the Brandenburg youth Dennis who wants to avenge his brother after he was injured while watching a wrestling event. Soldat described this film as his attempt to do something conventional. He also took part in the Panorama section with the film Breeding and Order . The nine-minute short - documentary portrays two gay , BDSM practitioners seniors soldier had met over the Internet. A sequel is a weekend in Germany (2013).

For his diploma film Der Unfertige (2013) he was recently awarded the Cinemaxxi Award Best Short Film in Rome and nominated for the German Film Critics' Short Film Award.

In 2014 he shot a four-part series of documentary forms on the subject of prison role plays. The first part of the Hotel Straussberg series (27 minutes) was shown at the Viennale '14 that same year. The visit (5 minutes) and The Sixth Season ran together in the program of the 44th Rotterdam International Film Festival and Haftanlage 4614 (60 minutes) celebrated its world premiere in the panorama of the 65th Berlin International Film Festival.
