Pornfilmfestival Berlin
The Pornfilmfestival Berlin is a film festival founded by Jürgen Brüning in 2006 for erotic and pornographic films . Brüning's claim was and is to reinterpret and reinterpret the genre artistically, socially and also philosophically. In 2006 the 1st Porn Film Festival took place in Berlin; it was the first of its kind in the world and has meanwhile resulted in follow-up festivals and offshoots on three continents.
The festival
The 2006 Pornfilmfestival Berlin had the thematic focus on Holland and showed porn films from the early 1970s in cooperation with the Netherland Film Festival and supported by the Netherlands Film Museum and Dutch film advertising. It was then that the Dutch began making the first erotic and pornographic films as pioneers of the genre.
The Dutch festival entries included works by Paul Verhoeven (represented with the film Turkish Fruits ), Shawn Ian Kerkoff (with the film Shabana Elogy ) and Cyrus Frisch . Other international contributions included films from Denmark (such as works by Lars von Trier under Danish Dogma ), from Singapore and the Philippines (whose filmmakers, despite the undisguised sex tourism in these countries, face long prison sentences for pornography) and from Japan (where filmmakers have to avoid the particular problem that no genitals may be shown there). A separate sub-festival, Cum2Cut , which was specially designed by women, was exclusively devoted to short pornographic films that were shot by interested groups themselves during the festival and that received special prizes.
Cinema screenings took place in Kino Arsenal 1 and 2, SchwuZ , Kino Brotfabrik , Kant Kino 1–5, Xenon Kino , Platz der Freunde der Deutsche Kinemathek , events in the Insomnia Nightclub , Galerie Tristesse Deluxe with a concert by Otto von Schirach , Berliner Volksbühne , KitKatClub , Freizeitheim , Festsaal Kreuzberg and in the offices of the porn film festival Hauptstrasse 26 in Berlin-Schöneberg .
The porn film festival has been taking place in the Moviemento cinema in Berlin-Kreuzberg since 2009 .
The competition
In 2006 four Jury Director's Awards were given to national and international heterosexual, gay and lesbian and especially short films. The genres ranged from documentaries, science fiction, horror, drama, crime novels, love films, art house or very classic porn films. In 2006, works from almost 30 countries were submitted. The 2006 festival was frequented by 7000 visitors, 122 professional visitors were accredited. Accompanying program
In addition to the film screenings, lectures, workshops and performances on the subject of porn took place all over Berlin , which, in addition to heterosexual pornography, also dealt with gay, lesbian and transsexual pornography. Activists from prostitution , BDSM and sex and gender also had their say in the supporting program. The workshops were led by, among others, the BDSM expert, author and publisher Matthias TJ Grimme and the gender expert Manuela Kay . The star guest in 2006 was Annie Sprinkle .
The Postpornpolitics symposium also took place at the Volksbühne in Berlin. There was also a report about the Postpornpolitics in the TV magazine Aspects :
“How it sounds like that was discussed in the Berlin Volksbühne. At the 'Post Porn Politics Symposium', scientists, artists and porn theorists fought for a new, alternative form of porn. It should stand out from the usual little films of a billion-dollar industry that degrades women to always willing accomplices of male desires "
In the Tristesse Deluxe gallery there was an accompanying photo exhibition with works by national and international artists such as Andreas Fux from Berlin, Bruce LaBruce from Toronto , Nan Goldin and Richard Kern from New York City and Henning von Berg from Berlin / Los Angeles .
Setting a new course in perception
The focus was on filmmakers who blur the line between art and sex and give porn a new valuation, such as Maria Beatty and Todd Verow , whose work was honored separately in a retrospective. It was noticeable that many women appeared as filmmakers, which should also be wanted in order to break the cliché that high-quality porn is solely a man's domain. The taz wrote:
"The new quality consists in the fact that the spearhead of the productions no longer focuses on the body, but rather on the soul of the actress."
The 2006 festival, originally planned to only last four days, was extended to five days due to its success. It takes place annually in October.
International Porn Film Festival
International follow -up festivals and offshoots of the festival took place at the Mixbrasil Festival in November 2006 in São Paulo in Brazil , at the Gay and Lesbian Film Festival Paris also in November 2006 in France , at the Athens Porn Film Festival as part of the Gay and Lesbian Film Festival Athens in January 2007 in Greece and at the Rencontres de l'Audiovisuelles in February 2007 in Lille , France. Another follow-up festival was held in June 2007 in Israel as part of the Tel Aviv gay and lesbian film festival . The Porn Film Festival Vienna has existed since 2018.
