88th Regiment of Foot (Highland Volunteers)

The British Infantry Regiment No. 88 or Campell Highlanders / Highland Volunteers was a light infantry regiment in the Seven Years War under Major John Campbell of Dunoon.

It was recruited together with its sister regiment, the 87th Regiment of foot (Keith Highlanders) to support the Prussian troops in 1760 and remained stationed in Germany until the end of the war. His troops consisted of parts of the 42nd Royal Highland Regiment (Black Watch) and fresh recruits from the Scottish highlands .

Along with the 87th, it took part in a number of battles, including Warburg , Kloster Camp , Wilhelmstahl, and Vellinghausen.

After the war, the regiment landed at Tilbury Fort in 1763 and marched to Linlithgow , Scotland, where it was disbanded.
