Britta Thomsen (born January 23, 1954 in Aalborg ) is a Danish politician and was a member of the European Parliament for the Danish Social Democrats . She sat on the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and the Committee on Women's Rights and Equality.

education and profession

In 1979 Britta Thomsen received a scholarship at the North African Institute in Uppsala . She then studied Portuguese language and culture at the University of Lisbon from 1979 to 1980 . From 1980 to 1983, she studied Portuguese and Spanish at Aarhus University . She received a Masters in History from Aarhus University.

From 1983 to 1989 she worked as a teacher and organizer at a community college . Afterwards she worked as an appraiser for the HK (Union of Commercial and Office Workers in Denmark), where she was responsible for international projects and surveys in the fields of tourism and services. She worked for HK from 1994 to 2000. Subsequently, from 2001 to 2004 she was director and owner of a management consultancy for labor market problems at European level.

politics

Thomsen was involved in drawing up the Danish Social Democrats' program of principles in 2000. From 2000 to 2004 she was a member of the party executive. In 2004 she was elected to the European Parliament for the first time. She signed the Spinelli Group's manifesto .

On October 14, 2010 Britta Thomsen received the Women of Europe Award for her commitment to promoting equality for women and combating human trafficking in Europe.

EU parliamentarian

From 2009 to 2014 Thomsen was a member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality, and the Delegation for Relations with Mercosur Countries . As a deputy, she was in the subcommittee on security and defense , and in the delegation in the parliamentary cooperation committees EU-Kazakhstan, EU-Kyrgyzstan and EU-Uzbekistan as well as for relations with Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Mongolia.
