The Brixham trawler was a major type of fishing vessel in the North Sea . The approximately 20 meter long ketch with gaff rigging was known for its good sea qualities.

The Brixham Trawler was the first type of trawler in the world. Its name is derived from the town of Brixham in Devon , Great Britain , where it was invented. Its heyday was around the middle of the 19th century. Today only about a handful of historical vehicles remain, some of which are used as school and training ships. For example the Ethel from Brixham .
