Until 1913 Broich was an independent municipality in what was then the Kempen district in the Prussian Rhine province . Its former area now belongs to the city of Kempen in the Viersen district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The municipality Broich comprised the largest part of the village of St. Hubert (a small part of St. Hubert belonged to the municipality of Orbroich ), the settlements of Bendheide, Escheln and Voesch as well as numerous individual farms to the west and south of St. Hubert. In 1885 the community covered an area of ​​13.0 km².

history

Broich was originally one of the six honors of the Electoral Cologne office of Kempen. The other five honors were Schmalbroich , Orbroich , Benrad , the Kleine Honschaft, which later became St. Tönis , and the Große Honschaft, which later became Vorst .

Since the French era , Broich was, alongside Orbroich, one of the two rural communities of the St. Hubert mayor in the Prussian district of Kempen. On April 1, 1913, Broich was merged with Orbroich to form the parish of St. Hubert . St. Hubert in turn was incorporated into Kempen in 1970.
