Schmalbroich is a district of the city of Kempen in the district of Viersen in North Rhine-Westphalia . Until 1969 Schmalbroich was an independent municipality in what was then the Kempen-Krefeld district .

geography

The Schmalbroich district encompasses the rural west of today's city of Kempen. Schmalbroich is divided into the three settlement areas Wall , Klixdorf and Ziegelheide and has always been a scattered settlement without an actual village center. The western border runs along the Schleck , which also forms the Kempen city limit to Grefrath .

history

Schmalbroich was originally a honnship in the Electoral Cologne Office of Kempen and since the French times a rural community in the Prussian district of Kempen . Since 1929 Schmalbroich belonged to the Kempen-Krefeld district. By the law on the reorganization of the district of Kempen-Krefeld and the independent city of Viersen , Schmalbroich was incorporated into the city of Kempen on January 1, 1970.

Architectural monuments

Architectural monuments in Schmalbroich are the mansions Haus Steinfunder and Haus Velde , the Gleumeshof, the Vinnhof, the Weibeshof, the Heumischhof chapel, the war memorial chapel on Kapellenweg, the little holy house in Klixdorf, the corridor cross on the Klein-Boxhof and the wooden cross on the Willmenhof.
