Ottensen ( Low German Ottens ) is a district of Buxtehude in Lower Saxony to the southwest . Ottensen was first mentioned in a document on the occasion of the donation of the Buxtehude monastery around 1197. The exact origin of the place name is unclear.
The ramparts on the Este (river) opposite Heimbruch , south-east of Ottensen on the lily of the valley hill, are prehistoric testimonies , the origin of which is not fully understood, as well as the large boulder that was found in Ottensen and is located in the village center, near the primary school .
On July 1, 1972 Ottensen was incorporated into the city of Buxtehude.

history
- 1196: First mention of the place, with the name Ottenstide or Ottenstede.
- 1677: There are 12 farms and 46 residents.
- 1743: A schoolmaster is mentioned for the first time.
- 1777: There are 23 fireplaces.
- 1885: The school gets its own building.
- 1897: A new school building is built.
- 1928: Ottensen gets a train station.
- 1947: A waterworks is built for the central supply of the village.
- 1967: The sports club Ottensen e. V. is founded.
