Broken Hope ( English for "Broken Hope") is an American death metal band from Chicago .
history
Broken Hope was founded in 1988 by guitarist Jeremy Wagner while he was still in high school. After the band had made and distributed two demo recordings , they won a recording contract with a smaller label in 1990 . In 1991 the debut album Swamped in Gore was produced, which was the first death metal album to be recorded entirely digitally . The album received mostly positive reviews and gave the band their breakthrough. In 1993 there was a change to the larger label Metal Blade Records , through which Broken Hope produced all subsequent albums as well as a re-release of their debut. Released in 1995, the album Repulsive Conception was included in the monthly Top 25 metal charts of the US music magazine CMJ at the time of its release .
At the end of the 90s, the band had toured almost continuously for 10 years and worked on their albums until the first problems with the label arose. There were also disagreements among the band members. In 1999 Broken Hope released their last album Grotesque Blessings and completed two final tours of North America and Europe before founder Jeremy Wagner decided to quit the band in 2000.
A few years later, however, the three former members, Jeremy Wagner, Shaun Glass and Joe Ptacek, planned a reunion; However, this plan was initially destroyed by Ptacek's suicide on January 20, 2010. In 2012 the band reformed and signed a recording deal with Century Media Records . A tour on the occasion of the reunification is planned.
On August 1st, 2013, the band announced their sixth studio album, Omen of Disease , and pre-released the cover . At the same time, Damian Leski ( Gorgasm ) was introduced as the new singer. In December 2014, Shaun Glass and Chuck Wepfer announced that they had left the band to take more care of their band The Bloodline. They are replaced by Matt Szlachta (Dirge Within - former name of The Bloodline), Chimaira and Diego Soria (Disorge).
