Brooklyn is a civil parish in Cullman County in the state of Alabama in the United States .

geography

Brooklyn is located in northern Alabama in the southern United States. It is located about 23 kilometers southwest of 28,000 hectares large Guntersville Lake , and 44 kilometers east of the William B. Bankhead National Forest .

Nearby locations include Baileyton (2 km north), Fairview (4 km west), Holly Pond (4 km south), Arab (13 km northeast), and Eva (13 km northwest). The next larger city with 170,000 inhabitants is Huntsville, about 38 kilometers to the north .

history

In reference to a local family, the place was originally called Bright . Vert Schultz later gave the place the name in reference to the New York district of Brooklyn , according to other assumptions he was (Engl. Because of a nearby brook Brook ) called. A post office was operated from 1890 to 1905.

traffic

US Highway 278 and Alabama State Route 74 run about 5 kilometers south of the village . This route connects to US Highway 231 in the east and US Highway 31 and Interstate 65 in the west .

About 14 miles to the west is Cullman Regional Airport-Folsom Field .
