Brooks Tegler

Brooks Tegler (* 12. November 1954 in Philadelphia ) is an American jazz - drummer and bandleader.

biography

Tegler, who is influenced by swing bandleaders like Gene Krupa , Duke Ellington , Benny Goodman , Count Basie and Artie Shaw , grew up in Baltimore , where he lived until 1972. In 1968 he began his professional career as a session musician; he has also released eight albums under his own name with smaller ensembles and big bands . He was also active as a producer of numerous tribute concerts for well-known jazz musicians, except for the one mentioned for JJ Johnson / Kai Winding , Helen Ward and Tommy Dorsey . In the Washington DC area he has performed regularly with his band since the 1990s, and with the Ensemble Capital Combinations since the 2000s .

In addition to his activities as a musician, he deals with World War II ; he organized some memorial services in Washington, DC in the 1980s and 1990s. This led to the sculptor Raymond Kaskey using it as a model for his relief at the National World War II Memorial .

Brooks Tegler tours regularly in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany with various big bands, for example the Jack Million Band .
