Brookton is located in the Western Australian "wheat belt" about 120 kilometers east of the capital Perth . The seat of the Shire Council is in the town of Brookton, in which about 586 inhabitants live (2016).

The Brookton Council has seven members. They are elected by all residents of the Shire. Brookton is not divided into districts. The council chairman and president des Shires are also recruited from among the councilors.
