Broughton in Furness is a place on the southern edge of the Lake District National Park in Cumbria , England . The place belonged to Lancashire until 1974 and then came under the Local Government Act to Cumbria.

The place is mentioned in the Domesday Book as belonging to Tostig Godwinson . The place became a trading center for agricultural products and fish from the region.

In 1810 an obelisk was erected on the central square to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the crown of George III. built.

In 1859 Broughton was connected to the railway in Furness by the Coniston branch of the Furness Railway . The station was closed in 1958 when the railway line was closed. The nearest train station is 3 km away in Foxfield on the Furness Line .
