Browallia grandiflora is a plant type from the genus Browallia in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Browallia grandiflora is a tangled branching annual plant . The soft stems and leaves are usually hairless, but in the upper part of the plant they can be sticky or glandular-sticky or finely haired. The leaves are ovate, pointed or pointed towards the front, more or less pointed at the base or occasionally almost heart-shaped. The veins stand out clearly on the underside of the leaf.

The flowers stand individually on straight flower stalks that appear in the axils of reduced, almost sessile leaves in the upper part of the plant. The chalice is five-lobed and about an inch long. The calyx lobes occasionally stick out and are usually blunt or indented. The corolla tube is longer than two inches long, slightly expanded and greenish-yellow in color and darkly striped. The two-lobed coronet measures three centimeters or more in diameter, is white or pale purple, the crown throat is yellow. The upper stamens stand apart, are slightly bent back and finely hairy. They stand over the hairless, upwardly curved stylus . The scar is green, pillow-shaped, and inconspicuously lobed.

Occurrence

The species is common in South America .

Botanical history

The species was first described by Robert Graham in 1830 . Another version , written by William Jackson Hooker , and a drawing of a plant grown in the Glasgow Botanical Gardens appeared only a little later (1831) in Curtis' Botanical Magazine .
