The Brownson Islands are a group of around 20 islands off the Walgreen coast of West Antarctic Ellsworthland . They are located about 22 km southwest of the southwest tip of the Canisteo Peninsula just before the entrance to Cranton Bay .
The islands were mapped on the basis of aerial photographs of the US American Operation Highjump (1946-1947) from December 1946. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1955 after the USS Brownson , a destroyer used in Operation Highjump .
