Bruce Ditmas

Bruce Ditmas (born December 12, 1946 ) is an American jazz drummer .

Life

Ditmas began his musical career at the age of eighteen as a companion to Judy Garland . He then belonged to Gil Evans' orchestra for several years , with whom he recorded several albums until the mid-1970s, such as Svengali in 1973 , The Gil Evans Orchestra Plays the Music of Jimi Hendrix in 1974 or There Comes a Time in 1975 . He also worked with Lee Konitz , David Sanborn , Michael and Randy Brecker , Steve Kuhn and Stan Getz . He also appeared on the Merv Griffin Show and worked with Barbra Streisand . Then he worked on recordings by Paul Bley , Jaco Pastorius , Enrico Rava and Jean-Luc Ponty .

In 1994 he recorded the album What If as a band leader with guitarist John Abercrombie , Paul Bley and saxophonist Sam Rivers .
