Bruce Guthro

Bruce Guthro (born August 31, 1961 on Cape Breton Island , Nova Scotia ) is a Canadian folk singer.

Guthro's style of music is shaped by well-known musicians / groups such as The Animals , James Taylor , Jim Croce and Pink Floyd .

Bruce Guthro stood on his own two feet at an early age and worked in the Saskatchewan uranium mines at the age of 17, and later in coal mining . In 1993 Bruce Guthro made his musical breakthrough by winning a prestigious singing and composing competition, resulting in the release of his first single, "Livin 'in the 90's" on MCA Records Canada, which made it to # 14 on the Canadian music charts managed to result. In 1994 he released his first album "Sails to the Wind" on the same label, and in 1996 his second album "Of Your Son" on EMI , which was reissued in 1998 including the top 25 hit "Falling". The album reached gold status in Canada and Bruce Guthro received numerous awards.

Bruce Guthro won in five categories at the East Coast Music Awards :

  • »Songwriter of the Year«
  • "Single of the year" (for "Falling").

In the same year, he won three Canadian Radio Music Awards and received a Juno Award nomination for best new solo artist . He got his own CBC special and went on tour with musicians like Jann Arden and The Rankins . 1998 was therefore the most successful, but also the most decisive year for Bruce Guthro, as he not only won prizes and awards, but also the election of the new front man of the popular Scottish folk rock group Runrig . Around 400 singers had applied to succeed Donnie Munro . In 1998 , Scotland became the second home of Bruce Guthro, whose last solo album, The Symphony Sessions, was released in 2014.
