Bruce Mapes

Bruce Mapes (born August 16, 1901 - February 18, 1961 ) was an American figure skater .

In 1913, the figure skating jump was known by his surname, Flip , but it is not certain whether Mapes was also its inventor. In the 1920s, however, he invented the toe loop , which today bears his last name in figure skating . Mapes later worked for NBC in New York and was living in Fair Haven , New Jersey at the time of his death .
