Bruce T. Draine

Bruce Thomas Draine (born November 19, 1947 in Calcutta ) is an American astrophysicist .

Life

Draine studied at Swarthmore College until 1969 (bachelor's degree) and then at Cornell University with a master's degree in 1975 in experimental physics. In 1978 he received his doctorate ( Ph.D. ) with a thesis in the field of theoretical physics at Cornell University . From 1979 to 1982 he worked at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton . In 1981 he became Assistant Professor and 1984 Associate Professor in the Department of Astrophysical Sciences at Princeton University , and has been a full professor since 1990. From 1996 to 1998 he was director of the Princeton University Observatory. His main field of work is theoretical astrophysics, especially the physics of the interstellar medium and cosmic dust .

From 1982 to 1986 he was a research fellow of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation ( Sloan Research Fellow ).
