Bruce Wrighton (born July 6, 1950 in Binghamton , New York , USA ; † October 3, 1988 there ) was an American photographer .

Life

Wrighton was only a few years as a photographer with his 8 × 10 inches camera from 1986 to 1988 in his hometown and the surrounding area. During these years three series of photographs were taken: one was street portraits in which he showed portraits of the residents and the workers of Binghampton with their furrowed faces and their shabby clothes. In the second series, Dinosaurs and Dreamboats , he portrayed the classic American road cruisers of the 1950s in front of the urban architecture of that time in Binghamton. The third collection of photographs St. George and the Dragon shows the subjects found by the photographer in Binghamton and the surrounding area in their surroundings, such as churches, pubs or apartments.

Twenty years after Wrighton's death, his work was rediscovered by the New York gallery Laurence Miller and his photographs have since been shown in European galleries. Since 2010 two monographs have been published by the Berlin publisher Only Photography - Roland Angst .
