Brunello Wüthrich

Brunello Wüthrich (born June 21, 1938 in Sorengo b. Lugano , Ticino ) is a Swiss specialist FMH for dermatology and venereology , FMH specialist for allergology and immunology . He is an Associate Professor emeritus from the Medical Faculty of Zurich on June 30, 2003 with limited teaching duties for dermatology, with special emphasis on allergology. Until his retirement he was head of the allergy ward at the University Hospital Zurich .

Life

After graduating from Lugano in 1956, Wüthrich studied in Zurich from 1956 to 1963 with a semester abroad in Paris. From 1963 to 1964 he worked as an assistant doctor in the medical department of the Lugano City Hospital and from January 3, 1965 to June 30, 2003 at the Dermatological University Clinic in Zurich as an assistant doctor, senior doctor and from 1975 as the chief doctor of the allergy ward. He completed his habilitation at the University of Zurich in 1975, where he lectured and worked scientifically as an associate professor for dermatology with special emphasis on allergology from 1985 to 2003. After his retirement from the USZ , Wüthrich ran a consultative allergological practice at the Zollikerberg Hospital until summer 2009 and worked half a day a week at the USZ until October 2007, where he supervised the “Experimental Allergology” group led by Thomas Kündig.

Publications (selection)

Wüthrich has written more than 1,100 publications, including more than 600 peer-reviewed original scientific papers and 2 monographs , published 7 specialist books and directed 72 inaugural dissertations and diploma theses at the university and at the ETH . His scientific work focused on neurodermatitis (atopic dermatitis), epidemiology of allergic diseases, food allergies , allergen-specific immunotherapy and hereditary angioedema .
