The well chapel in Koblenz 's Bubenheim district is in the immediate vicinity at the rear of the St. Maternus Church .

history

The St. Maternus Church was built right next to the so-called “Pompepädsche” (pump path).

The pump house stood on a piece of land owned by the Bubenheim community, which later passed to the city of Koblenz. Bubenheim's water supply was ensured here until the 1970s. After Bubenheim was incorporated into the city of Koblenz, the new district was connected to the EVM water supply , making the pumping station superfluous.

For almost a quarter of a century the small building was no longer in use and was about to be demolished.

On the initiative of Werner Wiemers and Heinz Kendung , the only Madonna of the Fountain of the Diocese of Trier was installed in the former functional building. The testimony of the local history should be transformed into a gem in the middle of the district. Wiemers and Kendung collected 35,000  DM for the artistically designed building by Heinz Kendung.

On May 26, 1991 the chapel was inaugurated by Pastor Werner Jacobs as part of a parish festival. The "Bubenheimer Brunnenmadonna" was made according to the artist's design in the workshop of the master wood sculptor Ludwig Stöckbauer, in Hohenau in the Bavarian Forest , from limewood with some real poliment gilding . It is built on the model of a Gothic Madonna and stands on a rock in which a spring rises. She carries the child on her left arm and hands him a cup of fresh spring water.

The chapel is regularly supplied with fresh flowers and candles.
