history

The fountain column from around 1790 stands in front of the former Fähr school, later the Bremen workshop, on Fröbelstrasse. Another, preserved community fountain from 1755 is now at the Kito House, Alte Hafenstrasse 30. In 1817 there were four community fountains in Vegesack, and around 1860 five; later further fountains were added in the different parts of the city, around 1891 there were 17.

This fountain column is no longer in its old location (probably Vegesack). The Fröbelstrasse area was largely uninhabited in the 18th century. When the Fährer School was built in 1892, a well was dug, which was deepened in 1906. The offset fountain column received a copper pump.

The State Office for Monument Preservation Bremen found: "The man-sized fountain column ... is an important and rare document of the water supply in the Vegesack area in the second half of the 18th century ..."
