history

From Grevenloe to Brusenkamp

The area of today's Brusenkamp was called Grevenloe or Grafenwald , also known as Gravelloch , a few hundred years ago .

The area in Nordlünen was sparsely populated. The first homes were built on the raised site on the edge of the Lippe Valley. For the farmers who settled there, the main source of food at the time was livestock. The animals found enough food in the heather and forest.

When later grain cultivation came more and more to the fore, the soil in most places was no longer suitable for it. Good arable land, however, offered itself in the area moving towards Cappenberg . For reasons of expediency, the farmers built their apartments and stables on the southern edge of the arable land. The farmsteads were lined up in a confined space, separated only by gardens and small ridges, pastures for the young cattle. This form of settlement was called group settlement.

The group settlement had many advantages over the individual farm. It promoted community life and offered protection and help in times of need. A total of seven farms belonged to this settlement around 1550.

Today's Brusenkamp belonged to the arable land of the farmers. Former owners still rave about the fertile soil today. There were no embankments or backfills of any kind, as you can find today in various new development areas.

When the municipality of Altlünen planned Brusenkamp, this area was still called Hinterste and Vornste Woerden . The name Brusenkamp probably came about because the wind whipped and roared on the flat meadows and fields . The name Brusenkamp was probably derived from the roaring Kamp .

After the regional reform in 1975

Until the regional reform in 1975, the Brusenkamp still belonged to Altlünen and thus to the Bork office in the Lüdinghausen district . Before that, attempts were made to set up a town center and a town hall for Altlünen in the area of Brusenkamp I. The construction was not implemented because Altlünen was incorporated into Lünen on January 1st, 1975. The construction of the Altlünen indoor swimming pool started in 1972 anyway. It was closed and demolished in 2011 due to the construction of a new central swimming pool in Lünen-Nord. High-quality residential developments will be built on the site of the former indoor swimming pool by 2018.

The first planning began at the beginning of 1960. It took almost fifteen years for the first houses to be built. It took until the 1990s for Brusenkamp I to be completely built on. Originally, however, Brusenkamp I was only supposed to be a flat roof settlement. However, a settlement with pointed roofs later emerged from the Brusenkamp, as many houses were built by employees of the former Westfalia ironworks union , now Caterpillar. The street names in Brusenkamp I are named after composers such as Bruckner, Mozart, etc.

The area of Brusenkamp II located to the east, which was developed later and was mainly built on with multi-family houses, has very little free space. Today these settlement areas are among the sought-after residential areas in Luen. Local supply shops are available in the vicinity.

The Brusenkamp today

In 2004, Brusenkamp I was awarded third place for special services in the care and design of the estate in the “The best settlement 2004” campaign of the nationwide largest state association in North Rhine-Westphalia in the residential property association. In Brusenkamp II there are mostly single-family houses as well as multi-family houses.

In 2007 the settlement community had 350 member families. Around 300 families with more than 1200 people live in Brusenkamp I, and around 400 families with more than 2000 people in Brusenkamp II. The border between the two residential areas is the Krempelbach. In addition, the Altünen grammar school and the Altlünen secondary school are located between the two settlements.

Fiber optic network

Since 2008 the hammer internet provider HeliNet Telekommunikation GmbH & Co. KG has started the City2020 project in the Brusenkamp area. This provides for the Brusenkamp I and II to be equipped with a fiber optic network .

A total of 52 km of the fiber optic cable will be laid in Brusenkamp. It offers local residents faster internet surfing and digital television . The construction work in Brusenkamp was completed by spring 2009. Almost 1,000 households were equipped with this technology. In Kamen and Hamm, too, households are being equipped with modern technology through the City2020 project.
