Bryn Myrddin
Hillfort

Bryn Myrddin ( German  Merlins Hügel ) is a hill with a hillfort in Carmarthenshire in Wales . It is located in the Tywi Valley, near White Mill, between Abergwili and Nantgaredig, about 4.0 km east of Carmarthen , north of the A40 motorway.

The Iron Age fort covers around 4.0 hectares and is protected by a large wall. There is an entrance on the northeast corner, protected by a tight curve inward and extensive ramparts.

The connection to Merlin , who plays a prominent role in the legends of the Arthurian circle , seems to be old. According to the legend of 1188 by Gerald of Wales (1146-1223), Merlin was born in Carmarthen.

Bryn Myrddin hillfort is one of around 300 hillforts on the Cadw list, with archaeologists assuming around 570. Tre'r Ceyri, in north Wales, is the highest Iron Age hill in northwestern Europe. Its area is only 2.5 hectares. The largest area has Llanymynech Hillfort in Powys with about 57.0 hectares.
