The beech mini-sac moth ( Incurvaria koerneriella ) is a butterfly from the family of mini-sac moths (Incurvariidae).

features

The beech mini sac moth has a wingspan of 13–19 mm. The butterflies have a yellowish head. The forewings are dark brown, the hind wings cream-colored.

distribution

The beech mini bag moth occurs in the western Palearctic . It is widespread in Europe. The species is absent in the British Isles. In Scandinavia it occurs only in the extreme south. To the east the distribution area extends to Asia Minor .

Way of life

The butterflies are diurnal and fly in spring in April and May. The main host plant of the caterpillars is the common beech . Other host plants are oak , linden and mallow plants . The caterpillars spend the first stage as miners in the leaves. Then they leave their mine and feed on fallen leaves on the ground. The caterpillars live in a self-made sack made of plant material, which they expand if necessary.
