In old maps the place is also called "Klos- (also Klurs-) Buchholzen", the nickname "Klos- (also Klurs-)" referred to the name of one of the landowners in the place at that time. "School route plans" from 1810 and 1815 show "Klos-Buchholzen" correctly in Remscheid and "Ringels-Buchholzen" correctly in Wermelskirchen, the "Müffling card" from 1824-25 has "Klos-Buchholzen" in Remscheid with "Ringels-Buchholzen" swapped in Wermelskirchen.

In 1815/16 there were 65 people living in the village. In 1832 Buchholzen was part of the Altbergian rural community of Fünfzehnhöfe , which had belonged to the mayor's office of Wermelskirchen since 1806 . Which according to the statistics and topography of the district of Dusseldorf as Ackergut designated place had at that time nine houses and ten agricultural buildings. At that time there were 62 people living in the village, seven of them Catholic and 55 Protestant.

In the municipality lexicon for the province of Rhineland , eight houses with 67 inhabitants are given for the year 1885. At that time the place belonged to the mayor's office of Fünfzehnhöfe within the Lennep district . In 1895 the place had eight houses with 64 inhabitants, in 1905 nine houses and 77 inhabitants.

In 1906 the mayor's office was incorporated into the town of Lennep with Buchholzen, which in turn was incorporated into Remscheid in 1929.
