Buckfastleigh, Totnes and South Devon Railway

The Buckfastleigh, Totnes and South Devon Railway was a railway company in Devon , England .

The company was founded on June 25, 1864 to build a railway line from Totnes to Buckfastleigh . The following year, the Buckfastleigh, Totnes and South Devon Railway received the concession for an extension to Ashburton . The 15-kilometer-long 2.14 meter broad gauge was completed on May 1, 1872. The operation was incumbent on the South Devon Railway . In May 1892 the line was converted to standard gauge . The Great Western Railway acquired the company on July 1, 1897 for £ 22,450.

Today a museum and tourist railway is operated on the section from Totnes to Buckfastleigh by the South Devon Railway Trust, founded in 1991 .
