Dieter Lukesch (born May 3, 1943 in Linz ) is an Austrian university professor and politician ( ÖVP ). Lukesch was a member of the Austrian National Council from 1990 to 1999 .

education and profession

After primary school, Lukesch attended a grammar school between 1953 and 1957 and then switched to the commercial academy, where he graduated from high school in 1962. Lukesch did his military service from 1961 to 1962 and then studied economics at the University of Innsbruck . He completed his basic studies in 1967 with the academic degree Dipl.-Vw. and received his doctorate in 1971 as Dr. rer. soc. oec. Lukesch worked as a bank clerk during his studies between 1963 and 1966 and was a study assistant with Stephan Koren . From 1972 Lukesch worked as a university assistant at the Institute for Economic and Social Policy, completed stays abroad in the Federal Republic of Germany and the USA and was university lecturer from 1979 to 1982. He completed his habilitation in economics and politics in the field of education and labor economics. In 1979 Lukesch became the scientific director of the export business course at the University of Innsbruck and in 1982 he became an associate professor.

Lukesch teaches at the Institute for Economic Theory, Politics and History of the Faculty of Economics and Statistics at the University of Innsbruck. His main focus is on the economics of education and human capital theory, institutional economics and new political economy as well as transport economics. Lukesch was also dean of folk science and statistics from 2004 and gave his last lecture on October 17, 2008, before retiring.

politics

Lukesch was regional chairman of the Austrian Association of Academics in Tyrol from 1985 to 1996 and since 1990 Vice-President of the Austrian Association of Academics. He represented the ÖVP from November 6, 1990 to October 28, 1999 in the National Council and was science spokesman for the ÖVP parliamentary club.
