description

Nicotiana benavidesii is a sparsely branched, 2 to 3 m high, slightly woody plant. The sturdy stems reach a diameter of up to 3 cm, are densely hairy and slightly sticky. The leaf blades have a length of 10 to 30 cm and are twice as long as the leaf stalks . The tip is blunt, the base is heart-shaped, the resulting lobes are extended inward and often bent up. The surface is finely hairy.

The inflorescences are row-shaped panicles , the flower stalks are 7 to 8 mm long at flowering time, 7 to 9 mm on the fruit. The calyx is cup-shaped, densely hairy, membranes unobtrusively connect the short, wide calyx teeth or are absent. The crown is light greenish-yellow, 4 to 4.5 cm long, hairless or almost hairless. The corolla tube is 5 to 7 mm long and 5 to 6 mm wide. The crown throat is about five to seven times as long, 8 to 12 cm wide, the crown mouth is about 4 mm wide and covered with indistinctly pointed lobes. The stamens usually come in three lengths and protrude beyond the crown.

The fruits are round, egg-shaped capsules with a length of 9 to 15 mm, they are slightly woody and contain broadly elongated or irregularly angled, 0.6 mm long, dark brown seeds .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.
