Buckingham Castle
Buckingham Castle was a ruined castle in Buckingham in the English county of Buckinghamshire , on the north bank of the Great Ouse .
The castle was first mentioned in 1154–1164, but was possibly destroyed between 1208 and 1215. It probably belonged to the Giffard family . In 1777 the area was leveled to create a churchyard. The surrounding walls of the castle now surround the churchyard. A similar stone wall runs along Castle Street, where it protects private gardens.
Buckingham Castle is not to be confused with Buckingham Palace , the official residence of the British monarchs in London .
