The Buckland River is a tributary of the Chukchi Sea in northwestern Alaska .
The approximately 110 km long river arises at the confluence of its two source rivers North Fork and South Fork Buckland River , with the latter forming the main source river. The Middle Fork Buckland River flows into the South Fork Buckland River 3.8 km upstream . The Buckland River initially flows mainly in a westerly direction. The Fish River flows from the right and the West Fork Buckland River from the left. The Buckland River turns north after about 50 km. It passes the Buckland settlement on the west bank and finally flows into the Eschscholtz Bay , a side bay of the Kotzebue Sound . The Buckland River has numerous meanders . The catchment area of approximately 6890 km² is framed in the northeast by the Selawik Hills and in the east and south by the Nulato Hills .
