Buckland ( Inupiaq : Nunatchiaq ) is a village in the Northwest Arctic Borough northeast of the Seward Peninsula in western Alaska . The population was estimated to be 426 in 2016.
Buckland lies on the left bank of the Buckland River , 33 km above its confluence with the Eschscholtz Bay . Buckland Airport is located northwest of the settlement .
More than 95% of the population are of American Indian descent.
