The Budapest Klezmer Band is an experimental klezmer music group from Budapest that was founded in 1990 and mixes traditional klezmer melodies and songs with Eastern European influences, classical music, swing and jazz elements . The band writes most of the songs themselves, but also reinterprets traditional Jewish or Eastern European songs.
The musical "mastermind" of the group, Ferenc Jávori in which it was today for Ukraine belonging Munkács born and grew up there. He experienced klezmer as part of the then flourishing Jewish culture there. As an arranger and composer , Jávori is constantly developing Klezmer. In the Eastern European tradition with its traditional melodies, rhythms and playing styles, he takes up the klezmer tradition of the USA and Western Europe, which is characterized by jazz and Latin rhythms, and forms a klezmer of open borders, the »blues of the 21st century«.
