The Buell Lightning XB12S is a Motorcycle category naked bike the " Buell Motorcycle Company." Due to its structure and the overall look, however, it comes very close to a street fighter .

For the 2004 model year, Buell followed the call for more power and torque and launched the Lightning XB12S, a version of the Lightning XB9S that was introduced a year earlier , with a displacement of 1,203 cm³ .

technology

The bore of the XB engine remained unchanged at 88.9 mm, the stroke was only increased from 79.4 to 96.8 mm, which on the one hand gave the engine the desired increase in torque in the lower speed range, but also ensured that it was reduced the usable speed range by approx. 1,000 rpm, taking into account the piston speed . This lets the engine "run into the rev limiter " very quickly when driving in a sporty manner .

The most important changes to the XB9S are: Primary ratio adjusted from 1.68: 1 to 1.50: 1, stronger toothed belt with 14 instead of 11 mm pitch and the active exhaust system called Buell InterActive Exhaust . A flap in the rear silencer regulates the exhaust gas flow in order to optimize noise emissions , torque curve and power output. It is activated by the control unit via a servomotor, depending on the engine speed and throttle valve position . The diameter of the exhaust manifold was increased from 38.1 to 44.5 mm, the throttle valve body grew from 45 to 49 mm in diameter. From MY 2004 to 2006, the D208 was used as series tires instead of the Dunlop D207.

Facelift

For model year 2005 one enlarged u. a. the stanchion diameter of the upside-down fork from 41 mm to the class-standard 43 mm.

The 2006 model year came up with further changes: The air inlet in the frame to the airbox was omitted (this brought about 0.5 l more tank capacity), the gearshift (lighter) and gearbox (helical teeth) were completely redesigned to be more user-friendly. The rear swing arm has been redesigned and should be even stiffer than the previous one. Furthermore, Buell reacted to the qualitatively inadequate Gates timing belts and since then has been installing more robust ones from Goodyear .

The 2007 model year was limited to optimizing the airbox and switching from Dunlop D208 to Pirelli Diablo T tires.
