Until 1945: Evangelical Bugenhagen parish church

After Stettiner Neustadt had expanded further, the new Bugenhagen church was founded in 1899 from 25,000 believers who still belonged to the St. Jakobi congregation . In October 1906 the foundation stone for the construction of a church for this new community was laid on Hohenzollernplatz . On January 12, 1909, the anniversary of the death of Paul vom Rode , the church was consecrated by General Superintendent Johannes Büchsel .

The neo-Gothic , three-aisled building by the Berlin architect Jürgen Kröger was built with monastery-style bricks and offered space for almost 1500 worshipers. The richly structured gable and the 65 m high tower made the church visible from afar. The colored windows were donations from the citizens of Szczecin and were created by the Berlin glass painter Carl Busch using cathedral glass . The picture program was based on suggestions from the Szczecin high school teacher and historian Martin Wehrmann and mainly showed events from Pomeranian church history; the focus was on the Reformation. Among the people portrayed were Otto von Bamberg , Martin Luther , Paul vom Rode, Johannes Bugenhagen and King Friedrich Wilhelm I. The Berlin painter Otto Berg created the altar painting with Christ teaching as the mediator of the Holy Scriptures . The limestone pulpit was donated by Kaiser Wilhelm II and marked with the imperial name on the front. The original bronze bells were melted down during the First World War and replaced by three steel bells in 1922 .

Since 1945: Catholic St. Adalbert Garrison Church

After 1945 the church took over the function of a Catholic garrison church and received the patronage of St. Adalbert (Polish: Kościół Garnizonowy pw św Wojciecha). Until 1945 the nearby Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was the evangelical garrison church of the city.
