The Buhlbachsee is a cirque lake in the northern Black Forest on the southwest edge of the district of Baiersbronn in the Freudenstadt district in Baden-Württemberg , which has been part of the Black Forest National Park since January 1, 2014 .

The lake is located around 4.5 km southeast of the Schliffkopf summit in the Buhlbachtal and less than half a kilometer northeast of the Black Forest High Road . The lake can be reached on foot in various ways, from Kniebis , from Baiersbronn-Obertal or from the Black Forest High Road.

The lake is about 160 meters wide and almost round. Only in the north-east, where the Buhlbach flows into the south-west , leaves the lake again, does it have a bulge over which it reaches a length of about 200 meters. In the lake there is an approximately 0.7 hectare swinging lawn area overgrown with birch trees.

Like all karse lakes, the Buhlbachsee was created by glaciers. The last deepening of the lake basin happened during the Würm glacial period , which ended in the Black Forest about 10,000 years ago.
