Coordinates: 27 ° 40 ′ S , 142 ° 24 ′ E The Shire of Bulloo is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland . The area is 73,723.8 km² and has about 350 inhabitants.
geography
The Shire is located in the southwest of the state on the border with South Australia and New South Wales about 900 km west of the capital Brisbane and about 910 km northeast of Adelaide .
The administrative seat of the LGA is Thargomindah with 270 inhabitants. Other localities are Hungerford and Noccundra.
history
In the 1860s cattle breeding began in the region and the first settlements became Thargomindah in 1874. In 1880, the Bulloo County, named after the Bulloo River, was established.
administration
The Bulloo Shire Council has five members. The Mayor and four other Councilors are elected by all residents of the Shire. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
