The Bulunkul ( Tajik Булункӯл ) is a freshwater lake in the autonomous province of Berg-Badakhshan in eastern Tajikistan . The lake is located at an altitude of more than 3600 meters in the Pamir Mountains .

Surroundings

The area around the lake is characterized by a plateau that is covered by a sand and scree landscape, with raised moors and swamps in the region. The high peaks of the Pamir Mountains tower above all to the north of this plateau. Lake Jaschilkul is less than two kilometers away from Bulunkul , Bulunkul being the smaller of the two high mountain lakes.

There is a village of the same name near the lake.

fauna

The Bulunkul is home or contact point for many animals, especially for a variety of aquatic life. There are also populations of ducks and geese . Due to the special bird species in the region, the Bulunkul is part of what is known as an Important Bird Area .
