Bump

The bump is a style of music and fashion dance from the 1970s in which the dance partners bump their buttocks or hips in rhythm, but do not otherwise touch.

Publications (selection)

The funk band The Commodores released a song called The Bump on their debut album Machine Gun in 1974 . The same title can also be found in a shortened version on their second album Caught in the Act from 1975. Other examples of music with the theme "Bump" are The Bump by Kenny , Lady Bump by Penny McLean and Bump Me Baby by Dooley Silverspoon. All three titles were in the charts across Europe in 1975.

The musicians Christopher Laird and Sonny Silver formed the group The Bumpers in the same year and released the single Dance The Bump . Also in 1975 the group Black Buster recorded the single Bump The Bump in the disco - funk style. Rainer Maria Ehrhardt released a single with the group Funky Family in 1975 under the same title .

In 1977 soul singer Joe Tex had a huge hit with a song that aimed at the bump : Ain't Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman) reached number 2 in the UK and number 12 in the US charts. The title was awarded gold in the USA. It was the last major success of his career.
