Federal Institute for Breeding Research on Cultivated Plants
The Federal Institute for Breeding Research on Cultivated Plants (BAZ) was a research institution assigned to the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection . It consisted of nine sub-institutes at four locations:
- Institute for Horticultural Crops ( Quedlinburg )
- Institute for Epidemiology and Resistance Resources (Quedlinburg)
- Institute for Resistance Research and Pathogen Diagnostics (Quedlinburg)
- Institute for Plant Analysis (Quedlinburg)
- Research and Coordination Center for Plant Genetic Resources (Quedlinburg)
- Institute for Fruit Breeding ( Dresden-Pillnitz )
- Institute for Agricultural Cultures ( Groß Lüsewitz )
- Institute for Abiotic Stress Tolerance (Groß Lüsewitz)
- Institute for Vine Breeding Geilweilerhof ( Siebeldingen )
The BAZ advised the BMELV and provided scientific decision-making aids for the fulfillment of political and administrative tasks in the field of breeding research, plant breeding and related areas.
With effect from January 1, 2008, the BAZ was incorporated into the newly created Julius Kühn Institute - Federal Research Institute for Cultivated Plants (JKI).
