history

After 1945 there were initiatives in the district capital to establish a secondary school. An initiative based on the aluminum works in Ranshofen tried to found a technical school. The Volkshochschule Braunau organized preparatory courses for the transition to a middle school. In 1953, both founded the association for the establishment and promotion of a middle school in Braunau . With the support of the municipality under the mayor Josef Schmid, and the support of the federal high school Ried im Innkreis under the director Max Bauböck and with a positive opinion of the state school board of Upper Austria and with the approval of the education minister Ernst Kolb with section head Heinrich Drimmel could already with 1954/1955 two school classes are started as a branch school of the federal high school in Ried im Innkreis with the high school. In 1956 the teacher Hans Oberbeirsteiner was appointed educational director of the branch school. On January 31, 1956, the municipal council decided to build an extension and then build a new building according to the plans of the architect Gerhard Bauböck from Ried im Innkreis next to the school housed in barracks. On April 23, 1956, the groundbreaking ceremony took place with Mayor Rudolf Stöger and after the Easter break in 1957, all classes were relocated to the new building. In 1960, the Minister of Education, Heinrich Drimmel, approved the school's independence. The school's first Matura took place in 1962. After the school was supplemented with gyms in 1966, a completion ceremony took place in 1967 with the Minister of Education Theodor Piffl-Perčević . In the 1968/69 annual report, however, a shortage of teachers and a lack of classrooms are reported, especially since the school building was designed for 12 classes and 19 classes were already taught. From 1985 to 1987 the construction of an extension to the school building and a renovation of the old building with relocation of the main entrance took place. In 1989 the school received a central school library. On September 18, 2004, a big graduation party was held to mark the 50th anniversary and 22 teachers and graduates exhibited their fine arts under the title GYMart in the Herzogsburg Museum .
