The art collections of the Federation , including Federal Art Collection , abbreviated BKS called, is the art collection owned by the Switzerland based in Bern . It comprises around 22,500 objects of Swiss art and design from the end of the 19th century to the present day .

history

With the federal decree on the promotion and promotion of Swiss art of 1887, the Swiss artistic creation should be promoted, in which the federal government annually purchases works of art. The first objects were added to the collection in 1888. The federal government has an average of CHF 200,000 a year . available for purchase of artwork.

Locations

Around half of the objects are housed in the Bern Collection Center. Around 6,500 works are on permanent loan at Swiss museums and 4,500 works of art are in the representative premises of the Federal Parliament , the Federal Administration and the Swiss representations abroad issued. When they take office, federal councilors and ambassadors can choose the works of art to decorate their offices from the collection. Part of the art collection is also accessible online via the ETH Zurich's E-Pics portal.
