history

The BIEK was founded in 1982 as the "Federal Association of International Courier Services" to facilitate the international dispatch of documents.

In 1984 an agreement was concluded with the then Federal Ministry for Post and Telecommunications , in which international courier services were exempted from the monopoly on letters at the time. This created the first legal basis on which more and more private courier and express companies could establish themselves on the German market in the years to come. At the same time, this development triggered the deregulation efforts at European level, which ultimately resulted in the Commission's Green Paper on the deregulation of postal services and in 1998 in the first European postal directive. In Germany, the BIEK was in discussions to since 1988 postal reform involved that finally in 1997 to the adoption of the current postal law have led.

The name of the association was changed in 1991 to Bundesverband Internationaler Express- und Kurierdienste eV (BIEK). On behalf of its members, the association filed many complaints before courts and the RegTP against Deutsche Post AG . The allegations included cut- throat competition , abuse of a dominant market position and receipt of state aid.

Since 2014 it has been called the Bundesverband Paket und Expresslogistik eV (BIEK).
