The Bundesverband Tierschutz eV (BVT) is an animal welfare association based in Moers and an office in Berlin .

history

The association is an animal protection umbrella organization founded in January 1962 in Germany. It emerged from the protest of radical animal rights activists against what they believed to be a lack of activity and animal welfare attitudes of the German Animal Welfare Association . BVT eV and the German Animal Welfare Association are now working together on animal welfare. In 2014 BVT eV and the animal welfare association for Berlin and the surrounding area merged to form the Alliance for Animal Welfare Policy Berlin . In 2015, the alliance for animal welfare policy, which is active throughout Germany, was launched with several other animal protection organizations .

The association is one of the seven organizations that are authorized by the consumer protection ministry in North Rhine-Westphalia to take the collective action for animal welfare organizations introduced there in 2013 .

activities

The association works in an advisory capacity in the Federal Animal Welfare Commission of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture , in the animal welfare advisory boards of the states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg and Hesse and in the Foundation for the Promotion of Research into Alternative and Supplementary Methods to Restrict Animal Experiments .

The association is recognized as an association entitled to take legal action in North Rhine-Westphalia , a member of the German Donation Council , the representation of interests of charitable organizations that collect donations, and the German nature conservation ring . He is also a cooperation partner of the association for controlled alternative forms of animal husbandry and a supporter of the "Rabbit fattening, no thanks" initiative, an association of 36 animal welfare organizations that campaign for an end to the cage-keeping of rabbits for fattening. BAT eV and the ASPCA for Berlin and the surrounding area organize on behalf of Alliance policy on animal welfare Berlin together with the German Animal Welfare Society in Berlin taking place nationwide demonstration "Research yes - animal testing No!".

In January 2016, the association started the campaign “The curly tail is mine” against the removal of curly tails from pigs without anesthesia.
