In the Federal Association of the German Lime Industry e. V. (BVK) around 50 companies with almost 100 locations are represented. Together with more than 3,000 employees, they produce around 6.5 million tons of lime per year and generate total sales of around 750 million euros (as of 2015).

The BVK sees itself as a partner to the public, business, science, administration and politics. His job is to provide information about the various lime applications and the concerns of the lime industry in Germany. There is also information about the product lime as building lime , limestone , burnt lime , slaked lime and carbonate of lime .

As an industrial association, the Federal Association of the German Lime Industry is the mouthpiece of the German lime industry towards politics and authorities . His core tasks include participating in the formation of political, economic and technical opinions in Germany and Europe as well as influencing legislation in order to effectively represent the interests of the lime industry. The BVK is present in the top organizations of the German economy in order to be involved in the association and industry discussions in the run-up to the discussion on all issues relevant to the lime industry. The results of research , standards work and quality assurance are accessible to all members. The Federal Association of the German Lime Industry is a member of the European and international lime association.

Bodies and affiliated organizations

Numerous committees and working groups support the exchange of information within the industry and prepare the formation of opinions and resolutions in the board.

The fertilizer lime main community (DHG) is an independent specialist department in the Federal Association of the German Lime Industry. She is responsible for all questions about the use of lime in agriculture and forestry (fertilizer lime or lime fertilizer) - including fodder lime and pond management. The DHG is supported by fertilizer lime societies and member companies that supply fertilizer lime and fodder lime (natural lime) to agriculture and forestry. It represents the member companies in relation to politics, ministries, authorities, research institutes, advisory institutions and in all areas of application technology, as well as in European standardization.

With the Institute for Lime and Mortar Research e. V. (IKM), the BVK can offer its member companies - but also the user industry of lime products - a wide range of services. The IKM tests building materials , binders , mortar , stone dust, soils and other things for their physical and chemical composition and quality. Customers and members are advised by the IKM on their individual questions regarding the manufacture and use of lime products. The IKM is a recognized test center for many fields of application of lime and for lime-based products.

The Research Association for Lime and Mortar e. V. (FG) conducts research on behalf of industry, users and the authorities in the areas of mortar, lime as a building material, lime in road construction and lime in environmental protection. The FG works in a practical way. Research projects that are funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics through the Working Group on Industrial Research Institutions - AiF for short - serve a growing group of companies as the basis for new developments in the form of research reports. The FG works in close cooperation with universities, colleges and other research institutes.

IKM and FG are legally independent associations and in a so-called organ shaft connected to the BVK. The members of the IKM and FG are also members of the BVK. BVK, IKM and FG have a joint managing director and a joint board of directors . While the IKM is a commercial institute, the FG works as a non-profit association.

history

The lime industry started to represent its interests independently in 1892, when the lime section separated from the “German Association for the Fabrication of Bricks, Pottery, Lime and Cement” and developed its own forms of organization. After the war, on June 23, 1953 in Bad Homburg, the lime works of the Federal Republic of Germany formed the Federal Association of the German Lime Industry. V. merged.
