The Federal Association of the German Fish Industry and Fish Wholesalers e. V. , based in Hamburg, is the professional interest group of 120 fish processing, fish wholesalers and fish importers based in Germany . Membership is open to every legally independent company that is active in the fish industry , in fish wholesaling and in fish and seafood imports.
The Federal Association of the German Fish Industry and Fish Wholesalers e. V. belongs to various associations. In addition to these association-related contacts, the federal association is in relationships with representatives of trade, consumers, science and food control and maintains contact with various media . The Federal Association is actively involved in the “Forum for Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture ” of the Federal Market Association of the Fish Industry e. V.
history
In 1903 the “Verein der Fischindustrielle Deutschlands e. V. ” In 1934 the “Economic Association of the German Fish Industry” was founded. In 1935 it was transferred to the “Main Association of the German Fish Industry”. In 1947 the “Fachverband Fischindustrie e. V. ” and in 1952 that of the “Bundesverband der deutschen Fischindustrie e. V. ”. In 1973 the name was changed to “Bundesverband der deutschen Fischindustrie und des Fischgroßhandels e. V. ” after the start of the coastal fish wholesaling companies.

Members are manufacturers, wholesalers and importers from the fish , crustacean and mollusc product areas .
tasks and goals
The association wants to promote and protect the common interests of the member companies. One of the central tasks of the association is to represent the interests of all members vis-à-vis the state and other public and private institutions. In addition, the association is dedicated to advising on all relevant matters and maintaining the exchange of economic and technical information in the fish industry and fish wholesaling (e.g. fish raw material supply, customs matters , food law and food quality , nutrition as well as sales promotion and statistics) as well as striving for fairness Competition within the fish industry and fish wholesalers.
The federal association is the initiator of the "More precise labeling of fishing areas" initiative, which was decided in 2008 and aims to identify the origin of fish products more precisely beyond the legal requirements.
