Federal Association of Music Organizers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bundesvereinigung der Musikveranstalter eV (BVMV) is a company representing companies and organizations as commercial users of musical and literary recording rights and ancillary copyrights. In terms of membership, it is the largest music users' association in Germany. The BVMV has had its registered office since 1981 in the office of the DEHOGA Federal Association , one of the most important members of the BVMV.

history

The BVMV was founded in 1962 to represent the interests of restaurateurs , retailers responsible and other trader who for their commercial musical copyright and neighboring rights must purchase. At that time, restaurant owners in particular were increasingly expected to provide a television set . The reproduction of music was also expected in trade.

organization

The BVMV is a collective bargaining partner of GEMA , GVL and other collecting societies. The general contracts concluded by the BVMV allow its members to use music under uniform, discounted conditions. The current managing directors of BVMV are Ingrid Hartges and Stephan Büttner. For their part, members of the BVMV are large associations such as the German Hotel and Restaurant Association, the German Trade Association , the Federal Association of Central Municipal Associations or the European Association of Event Centers. The BVMV indirectly represents a good 200,000 music-using businesses.

Positions

The BVMV is a user association according to 35 VGG and negotiates with the collecting societies in order to conclude general agreements. With the merger to form the BVMV, the music users are pursuing the goal of providing GEMA as a de facto monopoly in the exploitation of music rights with a negotiating partner on an equal footing. That is why the BVMV also acts as a lobbying association , which in position papers propagates a cautious understanding of the use of music, for example the introduction of an upper limit for the total fees that music organizers have to pay to rights holders. When GEMA increased its fee rates significantly in 2012, the BVMV organized a media campaign. As a result, the implementation of the new tariffs was postponed by GEMA and later only implemented in a modified form.
